This year summer is around the corner and temperatures have gone up in the last few days and people are lining up at electronics stores to buy air conditioners and coolers. Without any doubt India is one of the biggest markets for Air Conditioners because of the population and the duration of summer which lasts more than 4 months. People experience temperatures around 35–40° C almost every day in this summer and in peak the temperatures might go upto 45-49° C in some parts of the country.

So people definitely more often then not try to buy ACs  and it’s not a easy choice to choose right AC if you don’t have a proper idea about the specifications. This is reason we have come up with a detailed articles to help you choose the right air conditioner. The right AC will not only keep your house cooled but also help you to keep your power bills comparatively low.

AC Buying Guide : 4 Things to Consider Before buying an Air conditioners

Considering it is already Mid summer i India, we advice you to consider the factors listed below and purchase the AC of your preference. AC prices in India are already soaring and temperatures are also increasing day by day and it’s utmost priority to buy an AC now. Apart from getting a cheaper deal, it would be wise to consider the wait time for installation..

Here is the list of 4 important points to Consider before buying an AC.

ROOM SIZE :

The first and foremost thing to consider while buying an AC is the room size.  There are two types of AC’s available in the market today. One is Split AC good for spacious rooms and other is Window AC for smaller rooms. They both have their own set of positives and negatives.

If you have bigger or spacious room the Split Air conditioner will be the right choice. Split AC’s offer faster cooling and airflow with comparatively low noice and really attractive look. While Window AC are best for smaller rooms and you need have a window opening to install it. These Window ACs are also  affordable to middle class people and also easier to install and uninstall, and with easy maintenance.

AC Capacity, Tonnage : One of the first things to do while purchasing an air conditioner is calculating the size of the room that you want to cool, and then Selecting for the ideal AC tonnage capacity that can effectively cool the room. Air conditioner capacity is rated as tonnage in India and the tonnage ratio varies from room to room. For instance, for a 120-140 sq.ft room, a 1 ton AC is deemed to be ideal. Similarly, for larger room sizes like 150-180 sq.ft and 180-240 sq.ft, a 1.5 ton and 2 ton AC should work well respectively.

Star Rating :

In India we give utmost importance to electricity bills and star rating will be a deciding factor in choosing the right AC for your home or office. Always remember, more star rating means less power consumtion and less power bills. About 25% of of less power will be consumed by a 5 star AC when compared to a 3 star AC. But you might ask AC with High star rating will be more expensive compared to less star rating ACs? Definitely higher star rating ACs will have higher price but when you look at power bill savings for rest of 4-5 years  its increased cost can be easily recovered in the form of savings on electricity bills.

Inverter Option :

The other important factor while buying an air conditioner is inverter option. Similar to star rating inverter Acs also saves power bills in the longer run.

What is an Inverter AC?

An Inverter AC only uses the required amount of power to cool the the room temperature by maintaing the variable compressor speed automatically. The inverter option also helps from power fluctuations.

As soon as the room cools down, Inverter ACs consumes less electricity by reducing the. While a regular AC run at full speed then shuts off as soon as room temperature reaches the desired temperature which you have set.

Apart from this, Inverter AC cools the room relatively faster than non-inverter AC and noice is also relative low than the normal AC.

Final Word:

Most of retailers sell ACS by promoting additional features instead of focussing on basic necessary and its a marketing strategy. So don’t fall into the trap of markting guys. Yes features likes Auto clean, Sleep timer and several other will be handy but the AC has to fulfill your basic needs. Choose additional features only if the basic features satisfies your requirements.
