An official of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) government said, the track is being developed on a pilot basis and after approval by the State government, a similar model will be adopted for the entire 21-km road track.

Moreover, the tenders of the track have recently been called for the construction of the solar cycle track. The installation of the solar panel and other works related to the tracks, along the Outer Ring service road. The track will expand up to 13 km from Narsingi to Kollur and 8 km from Nanakramguda to the Telangana State Police Academy (TSPA). It will be built between the service road and the main carriageway of the Outer Ring Road.

The existing cycling track in the city, and the new ones that are under construction by the GHMC- the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Cooperation. This solar cycle track offers protection for cyclists from the sun, rain, and other harsh weather conditions.

Other benefits are like, Food courts, drinking water, surveillance cameras, and bicycle repair shops are also set up in between the track. Another one feature that makes this facility one of its kind is that it will be 24×7 illumination. Thus, the power requirement for the lighting is to be generated from the solar-paneled roof or the solar panel which would be settled on the roof, making this initiative more sustainable.

The HMDA officials said, roughly 9MW of power can be generated through the solar panels on the rooftop of the cycle track. This energy will be utilized for the drip irrigation and streetlights along with the ring road. Additionally, RESCO, the Renewable Energy Service Company model is been planning for the project.

According to the RESCO operator, it will invest a total expenditure for solar panels and for maintenance for 25 years and supply power to the department at some discounted price.
